Music to Preston James has never been about fame or notoriety. To him, music isn’t a hobby or even a way to make a living. No. Instead, music is so intertwined with Preston’s daily life it’s as essential to him as food, air and water. That may seem like an exaggeration but one only has to spend five minutes with this professed “music nerd” to understand nothing else drives or defines him. Whether it’s listening to, reading or talking about, singing or playing, writing or recording, alone or in front of a crowd; music is the force that moves Preston James forward.
In just the last two years, this double threat of a vocalist and guitar virtuoso has spent countless nights onstage blowing the lid off packed houses at The Wildhorse Saloon, ACME Feed & Seed, Puckett’s and Martin’s BBQ in the historic Nashville Downtown District. Preston was invited by Delbert McClinton to perform with the legend during his Sandy Beaches Cruise and another legend – Vince Gill invited him up to sit in and sing one with the Grammy award winning Time Jumpers.
In 2016, at age 15, James secured a Top 48 spot on Season 11 of The Voice (Team Blake) beating out nearly 300,000 who auditioned and this year, he auditioned for Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan for American Idol on ABC, where he made it to the Hollywood Rounds.
